Glenfinnan
Total Distance from Inverlochy: 17 miles
Total driving time: 30 minutes

Glenfinnan is famous for its world-renowned story of Bonnie Prince Charlie's fight for the British throne, which gathered momentum at Glenfinnan on 19 August 1745. He raised the Jacobite standard and rallied his clansmen for battle.

Around 70 years later, the Glenfinnan monument was built by Alexander MacDonald of Glenaladale in memory of all the clansmen who had fought for the cause. The tower is now in the custody of the National Trust for Scotland and there is a Visitor Centre here (open April - October, telephone/fax: 01397 722250) which tells the Prince's story.

Glenfinnan also boasts a famous viaduct and railway museum. In the summer months (June to October) a ateam train runs from Fort William to Mallaig then back again in a day, and stops at Glenfinnan Station. The train and station recently appeared in one of the Harry Potter films. For more information on train times please contact the West Coast Railway Company Ltd, telephone: 01524 732100.
